How an on-grid system works

Panels on your roof supply power to the house during the day. Extra units go to the grid through a net meter and are adjusted against your electricity bill. At night, or when solar is not enough, power comes from the grid as usual.

We install panels from Tata Power Solar, Adani Solar and Usha. The brand mainly changes the price and the warranty terms, and we show the options side by side in your quotation.

Typical 3 kW home system

  • Generationabout 12 units a day, 360 a month
  • Roof spaceabout 300 sq.ft, shadow-free
  • Panelsabout 6, depending on wattage

Common questions

How much roof space do I need?

About 100 sq.ft of shadow-free roof per kW. A 5 kW system needs about 500 sq.ft.

Does solar work on cloudy days or at night?

Panels produce less on cloudy days and nothing at night. With an on-grid system you draw from the grid when solar is not enough, and the net meter balances it out.

Who can get the PM Surya Ghar subsidy?

Residential electricity connections that install rooftop solar through the national portal. Commercial connections are not eligible.

How long does installation take?

The physical installation usually takes 1 to 3 days. Approvals and net-meter fitting depend on the electricity board.
